Family Camp 2016 was held at Camp Kuringai from Friday 8th April to Sunday 10th April. Most families braved the traffic and rain on Friday night and arrived in time to set up their tents in the dark ( but luckily the rain had subsided). The Saturday dawned bright and sunny and was perfect for a canoe trip down the river. The cubs got to show off their paddling skills and teach their parents a thing or two about messing about in boats. We stopped at a shady riverbank for morning tea before heading back to the starting point. After a well deserved lunch of hamburgers prepared by the experts (Russell and Stephen), it was time for an exploratory walk planned by one of the cubs as part of his Grey Wolf Award. With afternoon tea delivered to the turn around point, everyone had plenty of energy for the walk back and a climb on the perfect climbing tree! In the evening a succulent roast dinner was prepared by Hatty and enjoyed by one and all. This was followed by a brilliant campfire (started and maintained by the fire-loving scouts) and some great damper twists prepared by the kids. The sing-along and skits were imaginative and entertaining and left everyone ready for a snug nights sleep. The final morning included a range of craft activities for the kids, while the parents packed up the tents and cars, followed by some wide games across the campsite. Claire Herath |
